After a long and cold February, with race cancellations and postponements, The Ski Fast! team finally got back into the action. Two members of the race team traveled to Regina to ski in some near perfect conditions.
Day one was a 6.5 km Classic individual start race. Congratulations to Brayden for his 2nd place, and Claire for her 1st place finish. Day two was a 5 km Freestyle mass start race. In an exciting finish, Brayden took home 1st place by only 4 seconds! Claire finished with another 1st place for the weekend. The kids are looking in fine form for Provincials next weekend in Flin Flon! Thank you to all the volunteers and organizers in Regina for an excellent racing experience for all the skiers! It was a cold day in Prince Albert on Saturday but it didn't stop three members of the Ski Fast! team from competing in the Sask Cup race. Congratulations to Brayden for his first place finish, as well as to Ethan and Claire for their 4th place finishes. These kids have been working hard this season! Also skiing for CTSC was Bryn who placed 4th in the Atom girls race.
This year Carlton Trail Ski Club was represented by 8 skiers racing. All four members of the Ski Fast! team were able to participate along with 4 honorary members. This was a one-day Freestyle race on the golf course. Conditions were awesome thanks to the hard work of groomer Jim and all the volunteers and fans that came out for the day. More information about the race can be found here.
Congratulations to all skiers for representing our club so well! Two members of the Ski Fast! team traveled to La Ronge for the first races of the season. It was a great weekend of racing with tough competition and perfect weather.
The first day was a 3 km Classic mass start race. Claire (Midget Girls) and Brayden (Midget Boys) both did very well in their race. The results can be found here. Day two was a 5km Freestyle (skate) interval start. Again the kids performed well! The results are posted here. Be sure to check out photos of the event by clicking the PHOTO ALBUM link to the right! Race weekends may change due to weather. Although racing is not mandatory to be a member of the ski team, I highly recommend it. Attending races not only is a time to test our skill, but also is a chance to be part of a greater community. The rewards of overcoming the challenges of race day reach far beyond skiing.
