The Carlton Trail Ski Club and its group of loyal and dedicated volunteers hosted its 39th Annual Valentine’s Loppet on Saturday February 8, 2020 at the club’s trails in the Dixon Hills northwest of Humboldt. This year the weather was very co-operative and allowed 70 skiers and 9 volunteers to enjoy an absolutely gorgeous day, with even a short period of heavy snowfall thrown in to make for an interesting and picturesque ski experience.
Our trails were in great shape and the skiing could not have been better. We hosted skiers of a great variety of ages, including Jackrabbits of 4-5 years of age, to Masters Skiers in their 80’s. Skiers came from communities such as Melfort, Lumsden, Regina, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, and several smaller locales in the Humboldt area. Many of them skied a number of our trails, and reported that they did not want to quit skiing; it was just one of those kinds of days, finally. We kept track as we issued certificates, and a total of 738 km were skied over the course of the day. Following the loppet, a home cooked meal was shared in our Valentine’s-decorated clubhouse, topped off with Valentine’s cupcakes and cookies. Many door prizes were awarded to skiers. Great socializing and camaraderie was also enjoyed by all. It was a fantastic day on the trails overall; we owe a huge debt of thanks and appreciation to our group of loppet volunteers, who helped us put this event together again. Nearly $1,700.00 was raised at this loppet, and it will go a long way in assisting our club in hosting future events like this and continue to improve our trails for the continued enjoyment of us all. Please mark your calendars for our upcoming 40th Annual Carlton Trail Ski Club Valentines Loppet, to be held on Saturday February 13, 2021. Hope to see you there. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
